Maintaining and Cleaning Your Polished Concrete Floor: 3 Tips

Posted on

There are so many ways concrete contractors incorporate concrete at homes and businesses. A polished concrete floor can help to create a contemporary and modern look to any home. However, if you do not take steps to properly care for and clean your polished concrete floor, they may begin to lose their glossy look. Below is a guide to 3 things you can do to make sure that your polished concrete floor looks great.

Use the right type of cleaning fluid

Floor cleaner liquid comes in a range of different types and strengths. If you use cleaning fluid that is extremely alkaline or acidic, you may find that this damages the concrete flooring in your home. You should use a floor cleaner that has a neutral pH. A cleaning fluid with a neutral pH will not trigger a chemical reaction when it comes into contact with the surface of your concrete floor.

Use the correct type of floor pads

There is also a large selection of floor pads available from your local DIY or home care centre. However, not all of them are suitable for use on polished concrete flooring. You should search for a floor pad which contains diamond powder alongside cleaning products. The diamond powder will help to remove any particles that have become ingrained in the top layer of concrete, while the cleaning products will help to lift any grime. However, you should only use floor pads very occasionally when you notice that the concrete is looking dull. If you use floor pads on a regular basis, you may find that the diamond powder begins to wear down and damage your polished concrete floor.

Quickly deal with any staining

Any form of staining can really spoil the aesthetic appeal of your concrete floor. If you notice any form of staining on your concrete floor, you should take immediate action to remove it.

First, you should use a damp cloth to soak up any excess fluid which has gathered on the floor surface. Next, apply a solvent to the stained area. You should then use a poultice to lift the stain from the floor. Simply place the poultice on the stained area and cover it using a sheet of plastic. Leave the poultice in place for a few hours. During this time, the stain will be broken down by the action of the solvent liquid and will then be absorbed into the poultice. Finally, you need to mop the area with warm water.
