Three Ways to Creatively Use Concrete Around Your Home

Posted on

You might associate concrete with footpaths and driveways, picturing grey slabs. However, concrete offers an imaginative range of possibilities. You can creatively use it in various ways around your home. Consider the following ideas.

Retaining Walls

If you want to give your backyard a unique flavour, you could construct a retaining wall. While these structures often hold back soil on a slope, they can also be set up on flat terrain. They'll make your garden more attractive with different levels. You could create a raised patio and border it with a wall. Concrete can be treated to show diverse colours and textures. So contractors can mould and treat it to give the impression of natural stone, making sure the wall is flat enough to sit on.

Stamped Patio

If you love the Mediterranean look, you can lay concrete that mimics classic terracotta tiles around the patio. Contractors pour the concrete into place. They then press stamps on the surface, leaving the impression of tiles and grout lines. They'll also colour the paving using techniques to give the surface variation and dimension.

They may add terracotta-toned pigments to the cement mix before laying it. Then, they can add subtle variations to this shade with dry shake colours and stains. That way, the faux tiles won't look one-dimensional and flat. Finally, they can seal the surface to protect the hues and textures. The patio can be fine-tuned to align with the flooring inside the house to create unity.

Polished Concrete Kitchen Floor

You can also use concrete to create an appealing indoor space. For example, you could lay polished concrete on your kitchen floor. Contractors use pads to smooth and polish the surface until it shimmers like glass. This creates lovely flooring because of the juxtaposition of the rawness of concrete and the high polish. The kitchen will appear sleek without grout lines, and the floor will reflect light around the room, giving it an airy ambience.

Concrete Benchtop

You can also use Residential concreting to create a beautiful kitchen benchtop, either inside or outside. The concrete can be moulded into any shape of countertop and decorated. For example, it can be treated to mimic marble and set into a solid, square modern shape. Or, give it traditional contoured edges. You can cover multiple counters around the kitchen and create a unified look. Contractors can also add coloured glass pieces and aggregates to give the counter a glistening, patterned appearance.
